1756-L72 Description

The 1756-L72 is a programmable automation controller (PAC) designed for 

high-performance industrial applications. It features 4 MB of user memory for 

data and logic, along with 0.98 MB of I/O memory. The controller includes a 1 GB 

SD card (1784-SD1) for optional nonvolatile memory storage, with an upgrade option 

to 2 GB via the 1784-SD2 card if additional capacity is needed. It is recommended to 

use only manufacturer-approved SD cards, as they have been fully tested for compatibility. 

Using other SD cards may result in data loss or corruption. These SD cards primarily store 

diagnostic data, which is automatically recorded when faults occur and can be used for troubleshooting.

The 1756-L72 controller is equipped with three capacitor energy storage modules. The 

1756-ESMCAP/1756-ESMCAPK is a removable module included in every controller. Another 

removable option is the 1756-ESMNSE/1756-ESMNSEK, which does not provide residual 

WallClockTime power backup. The 1756-ESMNRM/1756-ESMNRMK is a nonremovable module 

designed to enhance security by preventing USB connections and SD card usage.
